Harris County medical examiner: deaths in the last 30 days

2026 by month

These are deaths the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences investigated: violent, sudden, unexpected or unattended deaths anywhere in Harris County, not only in the city of Houston. Overdoses and many other deaths stay pending until toxicology results come back, which can take months, so recent weeks show more pending cases and fewer overdoses than they will once ruled. Names are not shown.

About this data. Reports come from the Houston Police Department's NIBRS public data file, which HPD updates monthly. They are police reports, not convictions, and classifications can change. Addresses are shown at the hundred block. Sexual offenses are left off this map to protect victims. Houston Police does not publish death investigations. The Deaths & bodies found view instead draws on the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences public case lookup (counts only, updated daily by the county) and a list of bodies found in Houston-area bayous and waterways since January 2025, compiled from local news reports and checked against each linked story. Bayou map points are placed at the landmark the news reports name and are approximate.
