Every map on this site is built from data the police department or city publishes itself. Live maps query the city’s open-data service each time you load the page; nothing is copied or re-typed. Annual statistics come from the FBI Crime Data Explorer. Sources and update schedules are named on each city page.
Sexual offenses are never mapped, to protect victims. Juvenile cases are left off where the city flags them. Natural deaths are never listed by person. Locations are shown at the block, never the exact address. Some cities withhold categories from their public files; those reports cannot appear here.
A report is an allegation recorded by police at the time, not a conviction, and its classification can change. Public files can lag what a department announces; Dallas’s public file, for example, shows fewer homicides than Dallas Police has announced. Counts by ZIP code are not adjusted for population. The maps show where reports were made, not where crime will happen; we do not publish predictions or risk scores.
CityCrimeMap is not affiliated with any police department. We do not remove or hide neighborhoods for payment, and advertisers have no say over what the maps show. We do not sell data that could identify a victim. If you spot an error, tell us and we will correct it.
